Life is What You Make It!

If you are reading this, you are probably quite familiar with blogging. Blogging is more than a form of expression; I have found it to be a form of community. I can't even begin to tell you all the interesting connections I have made through writing my blog and reading other's blogs. Truly amazing!

A few months ago, I "met" a blogger who also happens to be a quilter. Most of my friends know how I love quilting. My friends also know I rarely have time to quilt...or HAD time, I should say, because my new bloggy friend Tracey has inspired me to "find" time for what I truly want to do. She is also very generous. First, she sent Coral a care package to make this quilt. Then, she surprised ME with a care package of my own. I decided to stop making excuses and get sewing!!

So, in four days, I made this:

It's only throw-sized (about 40 x 66), but it's just about right for a sofa throw or to cuddle up and read under.

Here's the back:

I love adding a bit of piecing to the back...new territory for me, but I really like the way it looks!

As soon as I began piecing this I knew two things: who would be its recipient, and that I wanted to free-motion quilt cute flowers on it. I practiced a little on some scraps and then decided to just jump in and go for it! I'm pleased with the results. What do you think? This is the front:

And here's some quilting on the back:

Tracey gave me her "rules" of quilt photography, which I obeyed. However, what she failed to mention is that one has to have at least a TINY bit of photography talent to pull it off! Guess it doesn't run in the family...figures!!

I think your quilt is beautiful. I know that with five children it must be difficult to fine time for quilting but that is a beautiful gift to give yourself and using our creativity gives us something precious. I love the names of all of your children.

Fushia, what a wonderful quilt. I love the colors and the pieced back. I found your blog through TraceyJay who seems like a great cheerleader and supporter. Great job! I also wanted to comment (I hope I'm not breaking any blog rules here) on the previous post about lists. Thank you for sharing the link to the lists. I am addicted to lists and have titled all mine "the impossible list" to take the pressure off knowing that the list will never be completely crossed off. I'm more afraid of forgetting to add something to the list, than actually not completing the task.... I'm glad I found your blog!

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog :) Thought I would pop on over to check yours out. Love your quilt! So talented!
Windsor has not changed too much in the last 10 years! lol. We did always have great food here. Erie has been hit hard and some places have changed up. But there are always new 'hot' spots around town!

Beautiful! I've made one quilt, for William, and it's a queen size - WAY to big for my first one! Not quite thrilled with the way it turned out, but piecing the top was fun :)

Those free-motion flowers look great!
