My Most Political Post Thus Far.

I know that many of you have endeavored (successfully, I might add) to remain politically neutral on your blogs, and for that I applaud you. But today, I just can't do it...well, I could if I wanted to...but I don't want to.

As excited as the Land of Pink was yesterday, it is disappointed today. I, personally, feel kind of like it's the day after Christmas and I didn't get that one specific thing I REALLY wanted. Not exactly depressed, but let down to be sure.

Any one else, feeling my pain? Well, I have great news for all of us! God knew what today would look like and what it would feel like (for those on both side of the campaign). He also has a plan to do His children good and to prosper them and to give them a hope and a future! (Jeremiah 29:11)

I don't know if Mr. Obama becoming President was God's will or not. I'll be honest, I don't think it was; it doesn't sound like Him to me.

And let me interject here that God's Will is NOT ALWAYS done. I know many believers like to comfort themselves with the idea that God is sovereign, and therefore everything (especially things they don't understand) is part of His mysterious plan. However, Jesus taught His disciples to pray, "Thy Will be done" (Luke 11:2); if His Will was a sure thing, there would be no need of us to pray for it! Also, 2 Peter 3:9 says, "He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance", now we know that doesn't always happen. No, God's sovereignty upholds man's free will. God will ensure that man retains the right to choose his own destiny, for good or bad. He said so in Deuteronomy 30:19,"I set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Choose life!" We must choose, and often we choose poorly!

So what do we do when we choose poorly? Specifically what do we do now that our nation has chosen poorly? (I fully realize I may take heat for that remark, but I will stand behind my belief that it is true.) We do exactly what we would have done if Mr. McCain had been elected: we "pray, first of all for those in authority" EVERYDAY (1 Timothy 2:2). And we stand, in faith on this:

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Notice, this verse says His people...we don't need the entire nation in agreement with us, we, HIS PEOPLE just need to pray and be obedient, and He has promised to heal our land!

Somebody shout Hallelujah! God will heal our land! GOD. WILL. HEAL. OUR. LAND.
I'm off to hit my knees. You know, they don't shake as much when you are down on them!

I agree with the pain you're feeling today. God is sovereign and His will is always done. Our praying is the language we speak in our relationship with Him, not a good work done to try and ensure what we perceive to be His will. We may not understand it, but it is always, always His will. He absolutely does allow for free-will choices, but just because Obama is President, doesn't mean His will wasn't done.
Great encouragement to remember that we do the same thing today, that we would have done if McCain had been elected.

Oh Fuschia! How did you know that I needed a calm place in all of bloggy land to visit today? I know exactly the feeling you speak of, of being let down. I agree with you 100% and will not stop praying for our country, ever. I wanted to write about the election today, but I'm even too dejected to do it justice. My poor chickie boy was convinced that McCain would win because why would God want someone who doesn't share our morals and values to run our country. *sigh* and so the conversation goes. Thank you for the reminder of scriptures to go to!

Ms. Fuschia,
It is hard to be quiet when it hurts inside. I have felt personally wounded all day. However, at the end of this long day, I do believe that even if this outcome is not His will, he will use it according to His purpose. Look at how God was ultimately glorified and continues to be by even such a man as Pharaoh. Don't get me wrong, I am not drawing a comparison between the 2 men... just trying to state that I believe that God directs the path of human history and that he can use anyone for his purposes! All the while, God is glorified. Pretty awesome. I share your conviction to pray continually and believe that HE will heal our land. Let us cry out to him. Blessings!

I know that you are right. God's will is not in everything that happens but he allows it for some reason maybe to teach us something, I am sure in this case that is probably what it is. But there is a verse that calmed my heart and maybe it will bless you also. I loved your verses. Mine is found in Proverbs 21:1 THE KING'S HEART IS IN THE HANDS OF THE LORD, AS THE RIVERS OF WATER; HE TURNETH IT WHITHERSOEVER HE WILL. I do believe that God will use this bad thing to bring Him honor and glory. Have a great week! connie

I was a good girl - I limited myself to 2 political posts (Mon. & Thurs.). I originally was only going to do one, but ...

I agree that God allows things to happen that are not in His perfect plan. That's where free-will comes in. He's not shocked by what happens, but I'm sure He's grieved to see that we're going our own way instead of HIS way. But He can still use bad for good.

I really believe he is a Christian. I believe that God is going to work mightily thru President Obama. I am excited and thankful to be living in the United States at this time. I will be praying. For this. And for your uncle. God bless.
